Buttercrunch lettuce is a variety of butterhead lettuce known for its tender, buttery leaves and crisp texture. It is a butterhead variety that was developed by George Raleigh of Cornell University and is an all-american selection winner for 1963. This lettuce has soft, green, slightly curled leaves wrapped around a loose inner head of blanched, sweet-flavored, interior leaves. This lettuce is slightly more tolerant to heat.
